New Xperience was a one off session lead by Vince Jones and produced by his father Ervin Jones. Ervin was a seasoned music producer having produced singles for local acts in the area like Norma & The Heartaches. In 1979 he helped his son release this record and form a publishing/label venture by the name of Moon Man Publishing/Records based in their home. From the early to mid 80's Vince released a bunch of different projects and singles in the area including the likes of "Break" by VJ and "Waiting" by Rain, the latter being a rare and expensive soul record just like this one. As far as I know Vince's last known release was in 1995. He passed away after a brief illness in 2007. Ervin was still a vocal influence in the local music scene until his passing in December of 2023.
This is the full 12" version. While the 7" 45 release is much more common to find (that is if you're able to scrounge a grand for it), the 12" is extremely hard to find. This may just be because I lucked into finding one of the rare 12 inch copies myself, but I think it goes without saying that Frisco Disco is one of the last great disco instrumental cuts. Based around a simple melancholy two chord vamp the track gallops triumphantly with tasteful string arrangement and a powerhouse of a rhythm. That being said, "Chance With You" is just as good of a song, a tender sweet soul ballad with lots of tasty vocal harmonies and guitar licks to sample.
Of note, "Frisco Disco" was included on BBE 2013 Private Wax Vol. 2, a collection of rare disco records compiled by ZafVinyl. Unfortunately BBE never reached out to the family to secure the rights from it and is most likely a needle drop. It's a shame because Vince and Ervin's story should be be told. The music they made and released could be a wonderful reissue like the likes of Numero Group's Eccentric Soul series.
