Renata Lewandowska (sketch of biography)

Renata Lewandowska (born December 27, 1947 in Świebodzice) - Polish singer, visual artist

She started singing in 1964 - still as a student of the Art High School in Częstochowa - winning her first local competitions there. Already a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1966-1972) at the Faculty of Interior Design, she participated in many singing competitions and festivals, including the Festival in Zielona Góra in 1968 and the student festival "FAMA 69" in Świnoujście, where she received an award for " performance culture" of the songs they present.

She was associated with the student movement centered around the clubs: "Hybrydy" and "Medyk" and the "Rh-" Song Studio operating there, run by the composer Jan Pilecki. With his songs, she won one of the main prizes at the 9th Student Song Fair in Warsaw, and in February 1970, the award for her debut at the "Winter Student Song Exchange" in Opole.

After her student successes, she joined the professional group "Quorum" led by Juliusz Loranc and in 1970 she performed with this formation at the 8th National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, with the song "Ach what was it for a wedding" by Józef Sikorski and Wojciech Młynarski. The song won the award of the Chairman of the Radio and Television Committee. In 1971, with the group of Juliusz Loranc, she recorded music for the films: "Milion za Laurę" (dir. Hieronim Przybył) and "Five and a half Pale Józka (dir. Henryk Kluba).

After the disbandment of "Quorum", Renata Lewandowska began performing on her own. In 1972 year at the 10th Festival of Polish Song in Opole in the concert "Debuts" she sang a song by Juliusz Loranc and Jonasz Kofta, awarded with a special award by the Chairman of the WRN Karol Musioł "

In the years 1972/74, as a result of Renata Lewandowska's cooperation with the composer Juliusz Loranc and the authors of the texts Ryszard Marek Groński and Jonasz Kofta, several of her solo radio recordings were created, such as "Magia Szos", "Niestałość" or "Czas Pożegnań". A group of soloists cooperating with Juliusz Loranc in recording these songs formed a vocal band called Grupa "&" (and for the time of the Opole festival "Grupa" I"), with which the singer performed at XII KFPP '74 in Opole with the song "Radość o Poranku", awarded the award of the Minister of Culture and Art.

In 1975-76 she collaborated with the composer Waldemar Parzyński (NOVI Singers), which resulted in songs recorded on the Polish Radio: "Love this girl", "Summer this year" and "We don't even know if it was love" - all by Waldemar Parzynski and Ryszard Marek Groński.

In 1975, at the 13th KFPP in Opole, she performed the song "Start without me" by Juliusz Loranc and Agnieszka Osiecka, and in 1977 at the 15th KFPP with the song "Don't think honey about how it could have been" by Juliusz Loranc and Jonasz Kofta. At the same festival, at the concert "Nastroje" she sang a song by Wojciech Młynarski and Adam Sławiński "I'm just being".

In 1978, she recorded the only album - a single (Tonpress S-212), which included compositions by Jerzy Suchocki and Ryszard Marek Groński "Today I want to know everything by touch" and "Since I have you from my head", with which she performed at the Festival " Bratislava Lira 1978". The vocalist's planned LP for Wifon at that time was not released.

Her singing activity included stage performances in the country and abroad, recordings for the radio, film and television shows (including "Singing Letters" and "Emancypantki") prepared by directors: Jerzy Gruza and Adam Hanuszkiewicz

She ended her singing activity definitively at the end of 1980, leaving Poland. As an artist and interior designer, he now deals with architectural design, landscaping, illustration...

Below is a biography of Renata Lewandowska sent by Mr. Krystian, written by a professional journalist and highly appreciated by Mrs. Renata.

Renata Lewandowska – singer, visual artist.
In the 1960s she studied at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, where she graduated from the Faculty of Interior Design. She realized her musical talent while participating in the student movement centered around the cult Warsaw clubs: "Hybrydy" and "Medyk". At the student festival "FAMA 69" in Świnoujście she received an award for "performance culture". She gained her singing skills in the "Rh-" Song Studio run by the composer Jan Pilecki, which resulted in one of the main awards at the 9th Student Song Fair in Warsaw, and then an award for her debut at the "Winter Student Song Exchange" in Opole.
Opole, thanks to the Polish Song Festival, has become a very important point in the career of this singer. During her debut at this festival in 1970, as a vocalist of the band "Quorum" led by Juliusz Loranc, she could enjoy the award given to the group for the performance of the song "Ach, what was it for a wedding", with a text by Wojciech Młynarski. Two years later, as a soloist, she won an award in the "Debuts" concert for a beautiful performance of Juliusz Loranc and Jonasz Kofta's song "Giant Your Shadow".
Renata Lewandowska's repertoire at that time was based on Juliusz Loranc's compositions with texts by the most outstanding Polish songwriters: Wojciech Młynarski, Agnieszka Osiecka, Jonasz Kofta and Ryszard Marek Groński. Songs such as: "Joy in the morning", "Start without me" or "Don't think darling about how it could have been" were the brightest points of the subsequent Opole Festivals. It was also then that recordings of the songs "Magia Szos", "Time of Farewells" and several others were recorded in the studios of the Polish Radio. In these realizations, Lewandowska demonstrated the fullness of her talent. Her sonorous, well-positioned, strong voice, supported by a slightly predatory way of interpretation, placed her in a trend close to soul music, so far from the blandness of the then cliché.
Renata Lewandowska remains in the audience's memory as one of the most original vocalists of the 1970s. Since 1980, he has been fulfilling himself artistically and creatively in the field of fine arts. He deals with interior design, green architecture and illustration.

The above biographical text, sent by Mr. Krystian Zieliński, was posted on 7/02/2018

[Archive]

Below is the original biography of Ms Renata, written by me (posted on 14/12/2014) and present here for over 3 years. I'm leaving it here, probably out of sentiment.

Renata Lewandowska - vocalist.
During her studies at the Faculty of Interior Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, the soloist performed at the 8th Student Song Fair in the capital club "Medyk". The singer became involved with the Piosenki Studio and the Rh- band operating at this club.
She appeared on the national stage in 1968, winning one of the distinctions at the 4th Festival of Soviet Song in Zielona Góra. At the student festival "FAMA '69" in Świnoujście, she received an award for the performance culture of the songs she presented.
This year, she joined the Quorum group organized by Juliusz Loranc and Bolesław Krasucki. She performed with the formation at the 8th KFPP in Opole (1970), where the song "Ach, what was that wedding!" was a success. This year, with the Quorum group, she appeared in the Polish film "Milion za Laurę" (dir. Hieronim Przybył, premiered on June 8, 1971), and also sang in the film "Five and a Half Pale Józka" (dir. Henryk Kluba, film "półkownik "). In February 1971, the singer won the award for her debut at the Winter Student Song Exchange in Opole. After the dissolution of Quorum, R. Lewandowska started her independent career. During the "Debuts" concert of the 10th KFPP in Opole (1972) she sang the song "Giant Your Shadow" which was awarded later.
In September 1973, the singer found herself in the vocal group Grupa I founded by J. Loranc. The following year, she performed with the formation at the 12th KFPP in Opole, where she sang the song "Radość o poranku", awarded with the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art.
After the dissolution of Grupa I (1976), the artist continued her solo career. On the Polish Radio, she recorded the song "Wood for women". She has performed in Poland and abroad. She performed at the XV KFPP Opole 1977 performing the song "Don't think honey about how it could have been". At the turn of May and June 1978, she performed at the 13th "Bratislavska Lira" Festival in Czechoslovakia. In the same year, R. Lewandowska recorded her first - and unfortunately last - album - a single with the songs "Today I want to know everything by touch" and "Since I've got you out of my head"
The sources available to me are silent about the fate of this talented vocalist.

Renata Lewandowska

She made her debut in 1970, winning an award at the Student Song Exchange in Opole. Later, she was the vocalist of the group Quorum. In 1972, she won an award at the Festival in Opole – she sang J. Loranc and J. Kofta's song "Giant Your Shadow" at that time. Later, they became the identity of the "I" Group. The song "Joy in the Morning" performed by this band won the main prize of the Ministry of Culture at the next Song Festival in Opole. Later, she began a solo career, but without interrupting her learned profession as an artist.

1979…

-How do you remember your work in vocal groups?
I usually sang in them "second voice". And this forced me to work hard in singing, in preparing difficult parts, in technical knowledge of musical secrets. I learned to hear the whole piece performed in its harmonic and instrumental sound. And that's priceless for a singer. I owe the ability to listen to music to Juliusz Loranc in general, he also helped me tame my large three-octave voice and use it skillfully.
- Do you still work with Juliusz Loranc?
Yes. I still work with him, although our musical tastes are a bit different now. I am more and more interested in soul music and the "singing story", in the lyrics of songs I would like to find problems close to me all the time.
-Which singers do you like the most?
Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. But I never tried to imitate them, although many compare me with them. This is a huge compliment to me - but completely off the mark. I don't see any reference to these great singers in my singing. And copying or imitating has never interested me.
-We watch you very rarely on TV and on the stage, we don't know if you already have your album?
I associate it primarily with the Opole festival. Rightly so, because I actually only perform on them in public and in front of television cameras. I work as an artist on a daily basis - I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, specializing in applied graphics. I only rarely and very occasionally perform on stages, and even less often I record something for the radio.
-On the radio hit list of Studio Gama we listened to an interesting lady's song "Sposób na women". Why do you record so little and what about your album ?
In June 1978, I recorded two songs for "Tonpress", "Since I've had you out of my head" and "Today I want to know everything by touch". The album was supposed to come out at the end of the year - I don't know why it didn't come out.
-What about longplay?
I'd like to record it this fall. I am currently verifying all my songs and the way they are performed in order to create a uniform stylistic material. I dream that this record could really present me, in a program carefully prepared, developed and implemented, previously well-tested.
I hate singing from a piece of paper, and even more so recording songs that have not been tested before the audience, too "fresh".
-You have prepared a stage program with the band "Omen ".
For the first time I will try to perform a recital program composed of American standards and premiere Polish songs.
-Good luck! Discography: SP. Tonpress S 212 Side A: 1. Today I want to know everything with my touch Side B : 1. Since I 've had you off my mind

Fantastic
This is a fantastic orchestra CD with two orchestras playing like on a revolving band stand, so that Tito Puente plays a while and then suddenly the rhythm changes to jazz and Buddy Morrow continues to play - but there is no break when they change, which they do 4-5 times during one track. First class arrangements and amazing how they could do it.

TITO PUENTE

Vibes, timbales, piano, alto sax, leader. Born New York City, April 20, 1925. First studied music and composition under Richard Benda. Played with several South-American and latin bands and his popularity goes more into this direction than to jazz. He played and recorded with Woody Herman and occasionally played jazz himself. The following are examples of jazz influenced recordings although a large part still belong to the fringe of jazz. The recordings on Tico, such as "Mambo with me" Tico LP1003, "Cha Cha Cha for lovers" Tico LP1005, "Dance the Cha Cha Cha" Tico LP1010, "Tito Puente in Percussion" Tico LP1011, "Cha cha cha at El Morocco" Tico LP1025 + Seeco and Tumbao labels are not included.
