about

A fascinating insight into the genesis of the Hugo Heredia album "Mananita Pampera". Recorded four months before the studio recording these tracks were works in progress.
Two long extended jams and prototype versions of "Carmen Pequena" and "Al Bebbe Guia" featuring piano legend Horace Parlan and the magic of percussionist Mandrake. All made at a time when Latin Jazz was not exactly the main attraction. In fact people were decidedly sniffy about it.

In that long hot summer of 1976 the most popular forms of jazz were Jazz Fusion (Weather Report, Larry Coryell, Mahavishnu Orchestra) Jazz Funk (George Benson & the Crusaders) and way way behind the pack were a few dedicated Free Jazzers. Prog-Rock ruled.. (But it wasn't all bad news, I bought my first Fela Kuti record around that time and more or less got into dj'ing.)
If you've already bought the Hugo Heredia - "Mananita Pampera" album just head over to the download section of your bandcamp account and you can download these tracks as a bonus.
